GS1 is the international organization composed of the national organizations of each country. GS1 is helping companies all over the world to do business with greater confidence by the efficient use of a globally universal standards and solutions at every stage of the supply chain, i.e. from manufacturing all the way to the consumer. Currently, 119 national organizations, including “GS1 Turkmenistan”, are members of this international organization.
GS1 sets global standards for over 2 million companies across the world. GS1 standards are used by 25 industry sectors in 150 countries worldwide. Each day over 5 billion barcodes are scanned in the world.
Initially, many companies apply to GS1 to obtain barcodes for marking their products. However, GS1 standards provide more opportunities for ensuring visibility of supply chains. The current architecture of GS1 standards is as follows:
- Identification: standards for identification of trade items, locations, logistic units, assets and also, data related to these objects.
- Capturing: standards for coding and capturing data into physical data carriers such as barcodes and RFID tags.
- Sharing: standards for the exchange of data between parties
