The GS1 prefix is not an indication of the country of origin of the goods: it is merely a range allocated to assign GS1 identification numbers to enterprises applying for them in a particular country. However, the product may be produced in any other country in the world.
Management of the GS1 System in certain countries is carried out by corresponding GS1 National Organizations. Based on the prefixes assigned to them, GS1 National Organizations operating in more than 152 countries of the world assign enterprise prefixes to member enterprises, which, in turn, are used by enterprises to form GS1 identification numbers.
